The 9th Everbright-Kam Man Cup table tennis tournament was held successfully on
By 8:30am in the morning, the gym was full of players. They were warming up for the game. The game started at 9:00am for the open double event, which was recently added to the tournament. Six pair of athletes played in 2 groups as the round robin. Then, both group winners played the final. The open double final were played between 2 pairs of athletes who had great age difference. One side were two senior mixed double, Shengli Wu and Jean Sze, both were pen hold with pip out; another side were about ten years old brothers Adar and Gal Alguetti, both were shake-hand hold with smooth rubber. The mixed double pair coordinated well, started as very fast attack and variated tactics; the young brother returned with the quick movement and loops. Many people came to table no. one and cheered both sides. The match was very intense and points were very close. Each point was played more than ten times back and forth by both sides___it was very difficult to win a point. Finally, the senior players with more experience, made a non-spin serve, then followed by a fast smash to finish the game and won the champion.
Three community events had most participants, who filled all ten tables in the field. They exchanged techniques and experience, learned from each other, and had a lot of fun. Soon, USATT rating under 1550 and 1950 were played, and had each event winners.
Under 2350 final was very intense between the Everbright Club head coach Ying Peng and Mr. Anton Koychev. Ying attacked Koychev’s both sides and made him run back and forth. When Ying saw the semi-high ball, she got chance to attack. Koychev made fast block and attacked back when he had a chance. With the smart tactic, Ying Peng won the first set. Koychev smashed two times and got two points at the beginning of the second set. Ying soon controlled the situation with more spin. Koychev smashed most fore-hand balls no matter what. This way, Koychev soon fell into Ying’s trap__lost points. Although Koychev did not give up, and played with great courage;just not able to retrieve the game. Ying Peng won the champion. The audiences applaud for the both players excellent performance.
